OCEAN BEACH KIWI SURF LIFESAVING CLUB

The Ocean Beach Kiwi Surf Lifesaving Club been patrolling Ocean Beach since 1965.  Ocean Beach, an easy drive from Napier and Hastings, is becoming Hawke's Bay's most popular beach attracting large crowds of beach goers during the summer months. Being an exposed surf beach it can at times become very dangerous. 

A strong Surf Club with a healthy membership is therefore essential on this particular beach.  Our club boasts a very proud patrol and competition record and over the years has won many Hawke's Bay and New Zealand Championship Titles and been one of the top clubs in New Zealand. In 1978 we won the New Zealand Rescue of the Year Award for saving eight lives in a dramatic rescue at Ocean Beach.

Our membership is totally voluntary, with community safety at Ocean Beach our paramount aim. We are constantly recruiting new members due to the shift of our young people to the main centres for work and education opportunities. 

The overall objective of the club is to be successful and healthy in terms of membership base, quality of competitors, desirable competition results and high quality public service. Surf Life Saving requires absolute commitment from club members at all levels. That includes daily training; providing quality public service via patrols, coaching club members as well as fund-raising, administrative detail and repairs and maintenance of patrol and competitive equipment on a week in week out basis. Members at all levels are encouraged to establish achievable goals; plan logically and to be focused, dedicated, enthusiastic and committed to high achievement. We understand success breeds success and that partnership with our wider community is vital.

Surf lifesaving helps build self confidence, self discipline, integrity, strong character and courage for life not to mention friendships that last a lifetime.

Members train in the pool, on the track and at Kiwi Beach Westshore Napier and Ocean Beach on weekends.

Surf Athletes are special people who generally go on and achieve good things in life.  Our Club supports motivated people and fee that the discipline and determination generated by the Surf lifesaving ethos is a very worthwhile endeavor.   Above all we encourage members to enjoy their sport and have fun at the Beach and stay over at our “million dollar” batch at Ocean Beach.
