NORTHEN REGIONALS - MOUNT MAUNGANUI

A great weekend had by all.  We had an outstanding number of athletes compete at Northens this year 31 in total and for many it was thier first major carnival.  The team did very well coming 12th out of 24 clubs entered.  Well done to everyone who participated!

Congratulations to George Mackie, Jack Crasborn, Daniel Ellingham and Ben Hamelink for gaining a 3rd in the u19 mens short course canoe. Clair Benson placed 2nd in the u19 womens surf race, Simone Baarspul 2nd in u19 womens beach flags and Ethan Ngawhare came 3rd in the u19 mens beach flags.  Luke Aitken, Brad Weber, Ashton Tuck and Ethan Ngawhare won both the open and u19 beach relays.  The u19 girls won thier relay but were disqualified for a incorrect batton change (sceptical)

A special thank you to the team mangers, Lennard and Sue Kay, they did a fantastic job of running up and down the beach after athletes. Also thank you to Bruce Baarspul for coming in at short notice to drive a van up and helping out, loading trailers and organising kids. A big thank you to Mary Benson, Effie's mum, and The Lowrey family for providing lagsanes and bacon and egg pie, it took a huge strain off the trip. And finally thanks to Pat for his efforts in making the weekend run as smoothly as possible.
