June 2010Hi all, I hope you are all managing to keep warm now that winter is well and truly here. This is just a quick update of what’s been happening so far this winter and also to keep you posted of what’s coming up over the next few months. WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENINGWinter training is now well underway for the winter. We have 2 sessions a week consisting of running on Tuesday nights @ 5:30pm and a Run/Ski session on Sunday mornings @ 10am. We have some hardened souls that turn up each week rain, hail or shine. We post the trainings here on the website each month if you are keen to make an appearance. ‘OBK Blog’ – Thanks to our team who are in the process of updating our website. They have created an ‘OBK Blog’ to keep updates of our club training and activities as we carry on during the year. Be sure to visit it frequently if you would like to keep an eye out of what’s going on. Quiz Night – We had a great turn out for Quiz night at the surf club on Queen’s Birthday Weekend. A big thanks to Adam for organising it and to those who came out and had some fun. We are looking to hold more activities like this during the year. So be sure to keep in touch to find out more. UPCOMING EVENTSHawkes’ Bay Surf Life Saving Awards - Friday 2nd July 2010. See flyer here. Fellow Surf Lifesaver Shaun Quincey (aka Trans-tasman Rower) is the Guest Speaker. He will be speaking about his adventure across the Tasman. So, come along and hear about Quincey’s adventure and support those deserving members in our District who have won awards. The club has tickets to sell, so please get in touch with Michelle Bennett or Jess Berridge for your tickets asap. They are $10 each and there will be NO DOOR SALES, so please get in quick. OBK Club PrizegivingDue to time constraints we will not be having a Prize giving this year. We will still award our usual prizes but unfortunately we will not be having a function this year. This will allow us some time to re-assess our club awards and introduce some more sports prizes and plan a better prize giving next year! We will present the 2009-2010 awards at our Season opening BBQ for 2010-2011 season. CALLING FOR…Lifeguard wannabes – Those who are interested in becoming a lifeguard this summer, we want to hear from you NOW. We would like to plan some award classes and need an indication of numbers and people who are interested. I understand we have a few Junior Surf parents who may be interested, so if you are toying with the idea and worried about doing the class with a bunch of 14 year olds, we might try and get an ‘oldies’ class together and run this over the space of a few weeks on a night that may suit everyone. Those who are already lifeguards and want to become an Instructor – please contact me too! This may suit school students who are doing their Duke of Edinburgh as a ‘service’ component of the Award.
Keep warm. Regards,
The OBK Sport Team. |
